Balkar Singh, prof (13.03.1940) a Sikh theologian and Academician was born to Pal Kaur and Shingara Singh in village Bachiwind, District Amritsar. He is married to Karamjeet Kaur.
He did M.A. Punjabi (1964), M.A. Persian (1973) and Ph.D on 'Sikh Mysticism : An Analytical Study in its Experience and Expression'.
He started his career as Research Assistant at Language Department Punjab, Patiala (1965-1966). After teaching at a Tarn Taran College (1966-1970), he joined Punjabi University, Patiala as a lecturer in 1970 and retired as a Professor and Head of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies department, Punjabi University, Patiala. Now he is the Director, GS Tohra Advanced Institute of Sikh Studies, Bahadur Garh, Patiala.
His works elaborate the basic principles of Sikhism and are based on the understanding of Sacred Texts. His response to the current issues and challenges has always been Guru-Centric.
