Ajmer Singh Aulakh (19.08.1942 -15.06.2017), a Punjabi Playwright and theatre man of rural region was born to Harnam Kaur and Kaur Singh in Kumbhwaral village, District Sangrur. He was married to Manjit Kaur.
Prof. Aulakh started his academic career in 1965 as Punjabi lecturer at Nehru Memorial Govt. College, Mansa and served there for four decades.
He stood for the cause of farm labourers and deprived low castes in his plays. The pastoral life beats in his plays in true sense and colloquial rural language dominates his scripts. He ruled the hearts of audience through his popular theatre.
His play 'Ishq Bajh Namaaz da Hajj Naahi' earned Sahitya Akademi award of 2006. He was also awarded Shiromani Sahitkar Award (1991) by IAPA, Canada and Kartar Singh Dhaliwal Award (1996) by Punjabi Sahit Akademi besides many other prestigious awards by different forums.
