Balwant Singh Dhillon ( B. 05.02.1950) a Sikh historian and theologian was born to Bhagwan Kaur and Diwan Singh in Ran Singh wali, district Faridkot. He is married to Usha Dhillon.
He did Ph.D. on Sikh Gurus and Mughal Empire. He started his career as Research Assistant 1979 in Guru Nanak Studies Department, GNDU, Amritsar, and retired as a Professor and Director, Centre for studies in Guru Granth Sahib, GNDU, Amritsar.
He has been investigating the old historical documents in libraries and Archives of India and abroad. He has first ever brought to light some Persian sources and Rajasthani documents. He has been instrumental to healthy academic debates on current-Sikh issues.
