Nahar Singh (Chandigarh)
Nahar Singh (Chandigarh) (06.10.1952) a Punjabi Folklorist and Academician was born to Ajmer Kaur and Rakha Singh Aujla in village Fatehgarh, District Fatehgarh Sahib. He is married to Surinder Kaur.
He served as a lecturer of Punjabi in D.A.V. College, Chandigarh (1975-1984) and in Punjabi University, Patiala (1984-1989). Then he joined as a reader in Punjabi Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh (1989-1998) and retired as a Professor and Head from the same department.
He has been striving to collect the folk songs of Malwa region of Punjab for the last three decades. He has also been critically evaluating the folk literature and guiding the research scholars of the field.
He was thricely awarded Dr. M.S. Randhawa Award by Language Department Punjab, Patiala for Punjabi Lok-Nachan di Sabhiacharak Bhoomika te Sarthikta (1989), Rarhe Bhambiri Bole (2000) and for Maa Suhagan Shagan Kare (2001), besides numerous awards by different cultural and literary forums.
