Fauja Singh (Dr.) (18.09.1918-08.04.1983) a Punjab Historian was born in village Valian Kalan district Sialkot (now in Pakistan).
He was a genius and passed all examination till M.A. in first grade. He did Ph.D on ‘Military System Of Sikhs (1799-1848)’ from Delhi University. He started his career as a lecturer in History at Khalsa College, Gujranwala. After partition he joined Khalsa College, Amritsar and subsequently Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Delhi. In 1961, he was appointed as a reader in Delhi University. His thirst for search in History of Punjab’, brought him back to Punjab. In 1967, he was appointed as the Head of History Department in a newly established Punjabi university, Patiala. Along with other colleagues, they planned the comprehensive History of Punjab from the beginning.
He wrote 30 books on the History of Sikhs and also got published more than hundred of research journals. Besides his scholarly works on medieval and modern Punjab history, he also translated various Persian source books on Punjab history into Punjabi.
After retirement he got fellowship from Punjabi University.
