Bhai Rattan Singh Bhangu had an illustrious ancestry. He was the grandson of Mehtab Singh Mirankot and Shyam Singh Karorasinghia was his maternal grand-father. Families of both these persons had participated in the Sikh struggle and had come to personify the revolution. Rattan Singh draws information and inspiration from his family and other close relatives and friends. Much of it he has preserved in his Sri Gur Panth Prakash for the benefit of the posterity. From him we come to know of the startling fact that Guru Gobind Singh was treated as a Sovereign equal in status by the Mughal emperor. There is much more.
