Gurcharan Singh is a retired civil servant of the federal govern-ment of Canada. He was born in Punjab, educated in London, UK and now lives in Canada.
He is a Research Adjunct Professor at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada and a Visiting Professor at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He also teaches an under-graduate course at Carleton University.
He has been active in Community affairs for more than 40 years and a recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for Community Service. He is the founder President of the Federation of Sikh Societies of Canada – the first national body of the Sikhs of Canada.
His first book was the history of the Ottawa Sikh Society.
